Stolen Puppy Returned To Grateful NJ Pet Owner After Home Burglary: Police

Someone entered a New Jersey woman's home, took her 2-month-old dog and fled the scene, police said.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A stolen puppy has made its way back home in New Jersey with the help of local police, authorities say.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, an East Ward woman’s beloved pet dog was taken during a burglary on Nov. 13. The suspect entered the woman’s home, took a 2-month-old puppy and two jackets, and fled the scene.

Surveillance video footage identified the alleged burglar as Jose Soto, 43, of Newark, authorities said.

Police arrested Soto the following day without incident. He told officers the whereabouts of the puppy, which Newark officers returned to its grateful owner.

Soto has been charged with burglary and theft, authorities said.
