'Apprentice' star and Newark entrepreneur is keynote speaker May 16

Dr. Randal Pinkett, will be featured as the keynote speaker at Greater Newark Conservancy’s biennial City Bloom Luncheon, Thursday, May 16 at the Mediterranean Manor, 255 Jefferson St. in the Ironbound. Pinkett is a Newark-based entrepreneur, speaker, author and scholar who is widely known as the fourth season winner of NBC’s reality television show “The Apprentice” with Donald Trump. His keynote address will discuss the challenges facing today’s urban youth, and how adults can make a difference in their future.
This event benefits the conservancy’s Newark Youth Leadership Project (NYLP), a year- round program that provides high school and college age students from Newark with job-training, leadership development, exposure to different career options and the chance to pursue college degrees and other educational opportunities. Since the program’s founding in 1999 over 700 Newark youth have participated. The Greater Newark Conservancy promotes environmental stewardship to improve the quality of life in New Jersey's urban communities. Founded in 1987, the Conservancy has four program areas--environmental education, community greening and gardening, job training and advocacy for environmental justice.
Pinkett is widely recognized as a leading voice in business and technology. The first and to date only African-American from Rutgers University to receive a Rhodes Scholarship, Pinkett has received numerous awards for business and technology excellence including the Information Technology Senior Management Forum’s Beacon Award, the National Society of Black Engineers’ Entrepreneur of the Year Award and the National Urban League’s Business Excellence Award.
