Volunteers Needed For Urban Forestry In Newark, Other NJ Areas

The New Jersey Tree Foundation’s Renaissance Trees Program is calling for volunteers to help plant in communities in Northern and Central Jersey in April and May.
“Our tree planting projects will take place in downtown Newark and the Vailsburg and Forest Hill neighborhoods,” said Renaissance Trees Program director Crystal Wessel, “We’ll also be working beyond Newark to include projects in Bloomfield, Morristown, Gloucester City, and Trenton.”

The NJ Tree Foundation plants trees in New Jersey’s cities in areas in need of green spaces. Through tree planting, volunteerism and partnerships, the organization assists communities in improving the environment and their quality of life.
Volunteers are welcome to assist us and the community with planting trees in urban spaces. Tree planting events are 9 a.m. to noon, rain or shine. Please wear closed-toed shoes and clothes that can get dirty. Tools and gloves will be provided. The number of volunteers at each event is limited. Volunteer groups will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

This season’s planting schedule will take place in the following neighborhoods:
- April 8th 527 Ridge Street Forest Hill, Newark 10 trees-30 volunteers
- April 15th 81 Edison Place Newark Downtown 11 trees- 30 volunteers
- April 19th Pocahontas Park Morristown 40 trees-20 volunteers
- April 22nd Brookdale Park Bloomfield 20 trees-50 volunteers
- April 25th Ivy Hill Park Newark 30 trees-30 volunteers
- April 28th Mulberry Street Park Trenton 20 trees-50 volunteers
- April 29th 607 N. Brown St. Gloucester City. 10 trees-30 volunteers
- May 13th 40 Sanford Place Vailsburg, Newark 10 trees-30 volunteers
