12-Story Research Building With Offices, Laboratories Proposed In New Brunswick

The proposed research facility and office building would be within the Ferren Redevelopment Area, at 20 French Street.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ —A proposed 12-story research and office building in the former Ferren Mall redevelopment site is up for discussion at the next city planning board meting.

City documents show that this building will include offices, workspaces, wet and dry laboratories, conference facilities and auditoriums, and food services. Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences will have specialty research space, offices, and laboratories inside the building, and the university will build a new medical school, planning documents show.

The building would be about 560,000 square feet, with a footprint of 41,000 square feet.

Representatives for NJ Innovation Associates, LLC will present the proposal at the July 11 Planning Board meeting for the first phase of the development.

The lots are at 20 French Street, within the Ferren Redevelopment area at the site of the old mall. This particular lot was once a parking garage. Nearby streets are Kirkpatrick, Spring, Paterson, and Church.

Another application for an access road, sidewalk, utilities, and landscaping will follow.

The Planning Board meeting is at 7 p.m. on the 11th at the municipal court, room 101.
