4 Rutgers Ties To Super Bowl: 3 Players, 1 Grad Who Works For CBS

"Rutgers nation, be proud," said 49ers cornerback Logan Ryan (played for Rutgers in 2011, 2012). "Jersey is represented in this Super Bowl."

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — From the banks of the Raritan to the biggest professional sporting event in America.

Three former Rutgers football players will play in the Super Bowl this Sunday (San Francisco 49ers vs. Kansas City Chiefs, kickoff is 6:30 p.m.). Plus, there's a Rutgers grad off the field as well: Oise Ohiwerei (Rutgers 2020) produces graphics for the gametime broadcasting at CBS.

The players are:

Logan Ryan: A cornerback for the 49ers. Played for Rutgers in 2011, 2012, announce he would drop out his senior year to go pro. He's 33 and previously won two Super Bowl Rings with the New England Patriots. He's from Berlin, NJ. Not only did he play for Rutgers, but he met his wife at RU: Ashley Bragg (now Ashley Logan) is a former Rutgers D-1 softball player. The couple married in St. Lucia in 2017 and now have two children together.

Isiah Pacheco: Currently a running back for the Kansas City Chiefs. 24 years old; his jersey is #10. Originally from Vineland, NJ, he played for the Scarlet Knights and was drafted by the NFL in 2022. This is his second time going to the Super Bowl.

Sebastian Joseph-Day: He's a defensive tackle for the San Francisco 49ers. He's from Stroudsburg, PA and played for Rutgers. At 28, he's been in the NFL for six years and like Ryan, this will be his third trip to the Super Bowl.

Oise Ohiwerei: A young Rutgers graduate now working as a broadcast associate for CBS Sports. Ohiwerei grew up in Franklin Township and graduated from Rutgers in 2020.

He produces the graphics and animations throughout CBS' NFL broadcast.

Ohiwerei worked for RVision (Rutgers student-run TV) as a student. He talked about the broadcasting he did at Rutgers while Pacheco played on the field:

“I spent many seasons at Rutgers running camera cables while Isiah (Pacheco) was leading our offense,” he told Rutgers Athletics this week. “It's been great to see us both succeed in our respective fields. And yes, I will have plenty of graphics ready about him that I hope are used. I’ll never waste an opportunity to rep Rutgers.”

"Rutgers nation, be proud," Ryan said at Opening Night on Monday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, where Sunday's game will be played. "Jersey is represented in this Super Bowl. A Rutgers guy is going to win regardless (referring to how he and Joseph-Day are on the 49ers, and Isiah Pacheco plays for Kansas City). A lot of this comes from where we're from and how we are raised. You can get to the Super Bowl and achieve your dreams from Rutgers."

Interestingly, he also said Rutgers head football coach Greg Schiano trained the RU players very well — differently than other college football coaches across the country.

"Schiano is the hardest, most demanding coach I've ever played for," Ryan told Rutgers Athletics this week. "But I learned after getting through Rutgers that I can withstand anything, focus through a whole game. I knew I was prepared. My work habits coming from Rutgers were different than a lot of guys in the NFL. I saw a lot of Rutgers guys in the Super Bowl. Devin's habits were like mine and Duron's habits were like mine. These Rutgers guys are different."
