Advocacy Groups to March Against Monsanto on Saturday

The march will begin at 2 p.m. at the George Street Co-op.

March Against Monsanto New Brunswick has announced that environmental advocates will join together on Saturday afternoon for a “March Against Monsanto”.

Beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25 at the George Street Co-op, 89 Morris St., the event will feature guest speakers Jim Walsh of Food & Water Watch, Lucia Huebner from Beechtree Farm in Hopewell, John Leary General Manager and Board President of George Street Co-op, Jim Wilday from GMO Free NJ, and Elizabeth Pyshnik, permaculture advocate and student in environmental engineering, according to a press release from organizers.

“People around the world are standing up to Monsanto, demanding a food system that is better for farmers, the environment, and their family's health," said Jim Walsh, NJ Director of NJ Food & Water Watch, in the release. "Many see Monsanto at the heart of the problems with our food system, literally changing the face of our food through genetic engineering. This march is happening at a time when consumers are demanding the basic right to know if the food they are eating is genetically engineered, and companies like Monsanto are standing in the way."
