PISCATAWAY, NJ — All are welcome Aug. 6 as Piscataway Township takes part in the 41st annual National Night Out.

Scheduled events will begin at 5 p.m. and will end at 9 p.m. Held on Stockton Street behind the YMCA at the Piscataway Community Center located at 520 Hoes Lane, Piscataway.

Many neighborhoods throughout Piscataway Township will be hosting a variety of special events that night, such as cook-outs and youth activities.

National Night Out was first launched to prevent crime and drug use/sales from occurring in American towns, but it has morphed and grown to become a family night out with local law enforcement. Residents in neighborhoods throughout Piscataway Township and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.

In total, 38 million people are expected to participate in “America’s Night Out Against Crime.”

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
