Jewish Federation of Greater Middlesex County to host Hurricane Response Day

In an effort to reach out to the community and further assist those whose lives have been impacted by the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy, the Jewish Federation of Greater Middlesex County will host a “Hurricane Response Day” at its South River office, 230 Old Bridge Turnpike from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18.

“Federation has a history of being a go-to agency in times of crisis, and we want to do whatever we can to aid those who are still reeling from the after effects of Hurricane Sandy in Middlesex County, and all of New Jersey,” says Federation Executive Director Gerrie Bamira.

During the event, which is open to the public, members of the community are being encouraged to drop off donations, including much-needed food, emergency supplies, gift cards, new toys and/or financial contributions, all of which will be distributed to local relief agencies and food pantries via the Federation’s recently established “Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund.” 

In addition, representatives from local social service agencies will be on hand to answer residents’ concerns, questions and, where applicable, provide available resources to those who are suffering on-going hardships because of the storm. 

“Our goal at Federation is to care for the vulnerable in our community, as well as provide relief and resources where and when we can. We hope this day will aid our local community in recovering from the storm and regaining a sense of normalcy in their lives,” says Bamira.
