Circus, Culture in BAM's Latest Show

Body and Music School of Performing Arts will perform a circus-inspired show on June 23.

A New Brunswick nonprofit performing arts school invites the community to their latest performance, which promises to be a varied and cultural piece.

Body and Music School of Performing Arts is a nonprofit performing arts school in New Brunswick that practices at Crossroads Theatre.

Their latest show is a mix of culture, circus performances and dance, according to BAM executive director Normarie Mclean.

"As in all our shows, we like to leave people with a message. This year our message is though we look different, we have a lot of things in common," Mclean said. "Learning to appreciate the differences is the start of bridging the gap (and) we use the performing arts as our bridge."

To enhance the circus-inspired performances, Circus Place, a circus arts school in Hillsborough, was enlisted to work with the students on skills such as juggling, acrobatics, Chinese yo-yo and stilt walking, according to a release from Circus Place.

"The classes are taught by highly skilled performers, educators and volunteers. Circus Place feels strongly that “art for children should be accessible to all children” and they are delighted to work with B.A.M," the release said.

Two performances are scheduled on June 23: 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Crossroads Theatre, 7 Livingston Ave.

Tickets are $25.
