Don McClean Leads Off State Theatre Weekend

Award-winning folksinger, classical music and family entertainment on tap over the weekend.

Don McLean, the folksinger who had a hit with "American Pie," opens a weekend of performances at the State Theatre tonight.

McLean, who is touring to celebrate the 40th anniversary of "American Pie," has 40 gold and platinum records to his name world-wide. In 2004, he was inducted into the Songwriters' Hall of Fame.

The free children's performance, Milk & Cookies, will have two performances on Saturday at 10 a.m. and noon with Beatles & Bubblegum, an interactive concert featuring the music of the '60s and '70s.

A classical concert with New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Jacques Lacombe and featuring Gil Shaham on violin. The Saturday show starts at 8 p.m., with a "Classical Conversation" beginning one hour before the performance.

Family entertainment with juggler Michael Moschen. The performance, Sunday at 3 p.m., incorporates art, science, physics, and mathematics, and features audience participation.
