Photo Gallery: Lord Stirling Students Participate in International Walk to School Day
The annual event is held in New Brunswick and encourages students to walk to school to raise awareness of safe walking routes.
The students of Lord Stirling Community School, parents, and school and community officials walked to classes together on Oct. 3 in recognition of International Walk to School Day.
According to Keep Middlesex Moving, 19 schools in 14 municipalities in Middlesex County participated in the event.
“On International Walk to School Day, parents and caregivers both teach and model safe pedestrian behavior,” said Diana Starace, Safe Kids Middlesex County Coordinator from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital's Level 1 Trauma Center. “It’s one thing to tell students about pedestrian safety, but by walking with them on International Walk to School Day, we can show them proper behaviors and give them the tools to be safer pedestrians.”
