Police Find Men Hiding in Central Avenue Basement, Allegedly Stealing Copper

Two men were found in a Central Avenue basement on Monday after residents called police.

Two men were arrested early Monday morning after police say they were trying to steal copper piping from a Central Avenue house.

According to a press release from the New Brunswick Police Department, police responded to a Central Avenue house around 3:15 a.m. after residents reported people in the basement who they didn't believe lived at the house.

Police found Garry Fraser, 38, of East Brunswick, hiding under a staircase and Kelly Hunter, 37, of North Brunswick, hiding in a clothes dryer, according to the release.

Police believe that the two were removing copper piping from the basement before police arrived, according to the release.

The two men were arrested and charged with burglary, theft and criminal mischief. Fraser was also charged with possession of burglary tools.
