Progress Made on Redshaw Construction

The school is on track to open in September 2014, officials say.

New Brunswick students were brought down to the site of their new school on Thursday for a ceremony to recognize the process made on construction there.

Construction crews have been working on the site of A.C. Redshaw Elementary School since March, and on Thursday morning, Schools Development Authority (SDA) CEO Marc Larkins visited the site for a beam signing ceremony.

Joined by New Brunswick School Superintendent Richard Kaplan, Mayor Jim Cahill and other local officials, Larkins said the long-stalled project is now moving along on schedule.

"Through the use of a design-build approach and the ongoing hard work of our construction partners, we are on schedule to have Redshaw students in their new, state-of-the-art educational facility in September 2014 and I look forward to celebrating that day with the New Brunswick community," Larkins said.

The new Redshaw school will be a 135,000 square foot, 46 classroom facility that will house about 900 students in pre-k through fifth grade, according to a press release from the SDA.

It is slated to open in September 2014, and is expected to cost $51.2 million according to the SDA.
