Prosecutor's Office Investigating Hale Street Shooting

A 21-year-old North Brunswick woman was shot and killed Saturday morning outside of the Masonic Temple on Hale Street.

No arrests have yet been made in an ongoing investigation into the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old North Brunswick woman and the wounding of a male victim early Saturday morning.

According to a release from the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office, Jessica Torres, 21, of North Brunswick was fatally shot just before 2:13 a.m. Saturday in front of the Progressive Masonic Temple on Hale Street. 

Torres was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 3:01 a.m., according to the release.

She is the mother of a two-year-old son, the release said.

Her death is being treated as a homicide.

The male victim, 28, of New Brunswick, remains hospitalized at Robert Wood Johnson University with multiple gunshot wounds, the release said.

A report on the website New Brunswick Today identified the victim as Raheem Fuqua, a cousin of city activist Tormel Pittman.

According to the release, an ongoing investigation by the New Brunswick Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office has ruled that thje shooting was not random.
