Rabid Skunk Found in New Brunswick

The animal was killed by a dog in the area of Courtland Street and Delafield Street.

The Middlesex County Office of Health Services is reporting that a rabid skunk was recently found in the area of Delafield Street and Courtland Street.

According to a press release from the county, an animal control officer for New Brunswick responded to a complaint that a resident's dog killed a skunk in their yard. The skunk tested positive for rabies after being sent to the New Jersey Department of Health Laboratory.

The dog had a current rabies inoculation, received an additional booster vaccination, and was placed under a 45 day observation period, the release said.

No humans were exposed to or bitten by the skunk, according to the release. Rabies advisory information will be distributed in the area where the skunk was found.

The skunk is the first rabid animal to be reported in New Brunswick this year and the third rabid animal to be reported in the county this year.
