Rutgers Day Returns

Rutgers Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday on all campuses.

Rutgers Day returns this weekend with its usual slew of free activities, performances, exhibits and attractions highlighting the state university.

Rutgers Day 2013 will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 27 across the Rutgers New Brunswick and Piscataway campuses.

The day will also feature the NJ Folk Festival from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Douglass campus and Ag Field Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Cook Campus.

An exhibition football game will be played at 3 p.m. at High Point Solutions Stadium on Busch Campus. Twenty-two children affected by Hurricane Sandy will be chosen to play the final five minutes of the game, and donations will be accepted at the entrance gates to benefit the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund, according to the university.

According to a press release from Rutgers, a new offering this year is an 11 a.m. Rutgers Day parade on College Avenue, featuring the Rutgers University marching band and floats.

Highlights of the day include the following events and activities, according to the university:

  • Busch Campus is home to the annual Engineering Open House and boasts dozens of interactive events all day long. Don’t miss the thrilling chemistry demonstrations at the Wright-Rieman Laboratories at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Fly high with a flight simulation program to get a sense of how planes work. Or if you’d rather stay closer to the ground, check out the Rutgers Navigator, a robot designed and programmed by students.
  • Visit the Rutgers Oral History Archive to record your Hurricane Sandy story for the statewide “Stories from the Storm” initiative. The ROHA team will be stationed just outside Van Dyck Hall on Voorhees Mall on the College Avenue Campus.
  • Ever wonder how a life-sized Barbie would look? Rutgers Project Heal, a student group that focuses on eating disorders and body image, will unveil a 5’ 4” Barbie constructed using a wooden frame, chicken wire and paper maché. It will be on display on the College Avenue Campus near Bishop House.

Admission and parking are free. Shuttles will be available between the College Avenue, Busch, Douglass and George H. Cook campuses, according to the release.
