Rutgers Police Host First-Ever National Night Out Aug. 1

Come one, come all at 6 p.m. Aug. 1 to "The Yard" on the Rutgers campus. Meet Rutgers police officers, live music, games, food and drinks:

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — This August, for the first time ever, the Rutgers University Police Department will host National Night Out.

Kids and families are welcome at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1 in "The Yard" at Rutgers University, 40 College Avenue in New Brunswick.

Kids and families can meet members of the Rutgers Police Department and Rutgers EMS. There will be live music, games, food and drinks at discounted rates and movie viewings.

Admission is free, there is no rain date for this outdoor event and no registration is required.

It is Rutgers Police Lt. Stephen Acquaviva who made the decision to organize and host the university's first-ever National Night Out:

"National Night Out is a perfect way to promote police-community partnerships," said Acquaviva. "We want to foster camaraderie with students, faculty and staff in the immediate university community as well as with citizens in New Brunswick and the greater New Brunswick area. We have long wanted to stage such an event. This year, we believed the time was right."
