Rutgers University Center Receives $50K Grant from Verizon's HopeLine

The grant supports the development of an online training platform to bring specialized sessions to child welfare employees.

HopeLine by Verizon presented the Center on Violence Against Women and Children, School of Social Work at Rutgers University, a $50,000 grant to develop an online training platform to bring specialized and unique sessions to child welfare employees on topics surrounding domestic violence and sexual assault.

There will be a presentation on Wednesday, March 9 at 9 a.m. to highlight the grant and introduce the program. Key stakeholders, Rutgers staff, Verizon Wireless representatives, past training alumni and current students will come together to showcase how these courses have impacted the community in the past and will continue to shine light on the subject now and into the future.

“Verizon Wireless aims to be a strong partner in the community and are thrilled to be able to support a university center and program like the Center on Violence Against Women and Children at the School of Social Work at Rutgers,” said said Andrew Testa, public relations manager, Northeast Market, Verizon Wireless. “HopeLine by Verizon supports victims of domestic violence and abuse and know that these online trainings will empower child welfare employees to better understand and respond to victims and survivors of abuse.”

“Thanks to Verizon, we are able to put select courses online to be utilized by child welfare employees across the country,” said Judy Postmus, founder and director of Center on Violence Against Women and Children. “Our Center will continue to look for opportunities to support child welfare employees to effectively respond to women and children who are impacted by abuse and trauma.”

The presentation is set to take place at the New Jersey Department of Children and Families Professional Center, located at 30 Van Dyke Ave., in room 103.
