This Week in New Brunswick: National Night Out, Farmers Market, Hub City Sounds

Check out a list of featured events in New Brunswick this week.

What's happening in the Hub City this week? Here's a quick list of some highlights around town:

1. The Middlesex County fair begins this week in nearby East Brunswick and runs through Aug. 11. New Brunswick 4-H is just one of the many organizations who will be there showing of their programs, for more information, click here.

2. National Night Out will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 6. Neighborhoods around New Brunswick will gather together for barbecues, meet and greets and other outdoor festivities, joined by the local police and fire departments. Unity Square will host a large gathering that is open to the public from 4:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at Feaster Park.

3. The New Brunswick Community Farmer's Market will have its satellite market open for business from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7 in Kilmer Square Park.

Its Jones Avenue location will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10.

Come to either site to peruse locally grown produce, local honey, baked goods and fresh meat. The market accepts SNAP, WIC, FMNP as forms of payment.

4. Hub City Sounds begins this week! The festival begins on Saturday, Aug. 10 with a concert from 3-7 p.m. at Boyd Park. Performers will include the New Brunswick District Jazz Band, the JT Jazz Project, Judah Tribe and David Rush. Admission is free.

5. Are you interested in exploring a career in culinary arts? The Promise Culinary School at Elijah's Promise will have an open house from 5-6 p.m. Aug. 6 at the school, located at 211 Livingston Ave. Admission is free.
