Five Things You Need To Know: April 8 - 10

This weekend, the baseball and track teams will be in action, residents can participate in the Trout Fishing Derby, and the Montclair State University Singers will perform at the Presbyterian Church.

1. All seniors in the community are invited to join the Walking Club for their inaugural walk, which begins today at 9 a.m. at the center.

2. The boys’ baseball teams will play Newark Academy at Governor Livingston High School on Saturday. JV will play at 11 a.m. and varsity will play at 2 p.m. The freshman game has been postponed.

3. The boys’ and girls’ varsity track team will compete at Madison in the Dogertown Relays on Saturday, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

4. The New Providence P.B.A. Local #132 and New Providence Recreation are co-sponsoring the 2011 Trout Fishing Derby on Saturday at , 8 a.m. The pond will be stocked with trout of various sizes and the fishermen with one of the six largest trout will receive a prize. Register on-line at newprov.org/recreation. The fee is $5 per person or $7 per family. All fishermen between 16 and 69 years of age must have a fishing license to participate, with a trout stamp. Bring your own rod and bait! The rain date is Sunday, April 10.

5. The Montclair State University Singers, a 52 member mixed-voice ensemble comprised of undergraduate and graduate students, will perform at on Sunday, beginning at 4 p.m.  The singers, who have performed at Carnegie Hall and other renowned locations, will perform a large variety of sacred and secular repertoire, including choral genres from the Renaissance to the 21st century.
