Letter to the Editor: Thanks Peer Leader Advisors for Relay for Life Involvement
This weekend, Relay for Life in Berkeley Heights raised $347,000 with 114 teams. Our own New Providence Middle School Peer Leader team raised more than $10,000.

I want to take a moment to acknowledge our tireless New Providence Middle School Peer Leader advisors, James Finley and Scott Murphy, who spent the night of June 4th on the fields and the track at Governor Livingston High School with this year's Peer Leaders from the Middle School for Relay for Life. Not only have they spent many hours meeting after school with these kids to prepare for this big event, they have overseen fund-raisers, and been an inspiration to the kids to go out, raise money, and dedicate themselves to doing for others for this great cause to fight cancer.
This year's team in Berkeley Heights raised $347,000, with 114 teams. Our own NPMS Peer Leader team raised more than $10,000. Our local Relay for Life group that walked overnight raised the most money of all Relay for Life groups across NJ, and the spirit at the event was really palpable.
My husband John and I always love to come around 5 a.m. to walk the final shift with the kids around the track. It is wonderful, with the sun coming up, to see what this group has done for others. We have many kids in the local communities of New Providence, Berkeley Heights and Summit who participate in Relay for Life — middle schoolers and high schoolers alike. It is a great thing, and we here in New Providence are fortunate to have such great faculty members in Mr. Finley and Mr. Murphy, who give of their time to make a difference and to inspire our kids to make a difference.
Regards,
