Man Struck by NJ Transit Train Survives

The man was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A man who was struck by a New Jersey Transit train yesterday afternoon, Tuesday, May 5, survived, according to NJ Transit officials.

The collision occurred at approximately 2:34 p.m. on the Gladstone line. The train departed from from Hoboken at 1:39 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive at Gladstone 3:14 p.m., before striking the adult male in his 50s, NJ Transit officials said. The man was struck at the west end of platform in New Providence and service was briefly suspended on the Gladstone branch.

NJ Transit reported no injuries to the approximately 40 passengers and employees aboard the train. The trespasser was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Following the incident, NJ Transit temporarily suspended service in both directions on the Morris/Essex Gladstone line. Service was restored shortly thereafter with delays. By Tuesday evening, trains were operating on or close to schedule.
