New Providence Police Blotter: Feb. 16 - Mar. 1
Over the last few weeks, the New Providence Police Department handled several arrests, a reported shoplifting, damage to private property, and one hit and run motor vehicle crash.

2-16-2011 – Detective Sretenovic arrested Arnolfo Donado, 24, of Patterson on an outstanding warrant from Paterson Municipal Court after a motor vehicle violation. Mr. Donado was released after posting bail.
2-18-2011 – A public works employee reported that several lights were purposely damaged behind the New Providence Rescue Squad building on Academy Street.
2-18-2011 – Corporal Jason Labaska arrested Luis Pillaga, 30, of Newark during a motor vehicle stop on Union Avneue. During the motor vehicle stop, outstanding warrants for Mr. Pillaga were located from municipal courts from North Haledon, Ridgewood, Sparta, Linden, Elizabeth and Rutherford. Mr. Pillaga was also issued a summons for operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license and for utilizing passenger plates on a commercial motor vehicle. Mr. Pillaga was turned over to the North Haledon Police Department.

2-19-2011 – Detective Sean Bubb charged Christopher Burger, 30, of New Providence with terroristic threats after threatening violence to his landlord and his family with a weapon. A warrant was issued by the New Providence Police and Mr. Burger was later arrested by the Roselle Police Department. Mr. Burger was transported and processed at the New Providence Police Department. Mr. Burger is currently lodged in the Union County Jail on $15,000 bail.
2-20-2011 – Patrolman Diamond arrested Montana Ricks, 19, of New Providence with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and underage possession of alcohol. He was also issued a motor vehicle summons. The charges stem from Mr. Ricks operating his vehicle on Springfield Avenue with his headlamps off during the required times. He was released with a pending court date.

2-21-2011 – Patrolman Diamond arrested Austin Deleonardo, 23, of Berkeley Heights with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and drug paraphernalia. These charges stem from Mr. Deleonardo being a passenger in a motor vehicle that was stopped for motor vehicle violations on Diamond Hill Road after an investigation into the smell of burnt marijuana during the motor vehicle stop led to these charges. Mr. Deleonardo was released with a pending court date.
2-22-2011 – Patrolman Andrew Diamond arrested Cheryl Kelly, 34, of Scotch Plains with driving while intoxicated. The arrest was the result of Cheryl Kelly operating her vehicle in a reckless manner on Mountain Avenue and Diamond Hill Road. She was released to a family member with a pending court date.
2-23-2011 – Patrols were checking on a tractor trailer that was parked in a Mountain Avenue business at 3:51 a.m. An officer had just checked the same parking lot ten minutes earlier and the truck was not there. The truck was found not occupied. Officers contacted the registered owner of the truck who indicated that his truck was stolen from his business in Bayonne sometime earlier in the night. The owner of the company also reported that the trailer originally contained a very expensive shipment of fragrance products. Detectives from the Bayonne Police Department and the New Providence Police Department are investigating the case.
2-23-2011 – The New Providence Police have been investigating several reports of a large amount of graffiti damaging both borough property and private property. Several juveniles from the borough have been identified as being involved in these acts.
02-25-2011- A manager of a borough business reported a shoplifting of approximately $225.00 worth of merchandise. The shoplifting is currently under investigation by the New Providence Detective Bureau.
02-26-2011- Patrolman Chad Wilson arrested Anthony Wargo, age 24, of New Providence with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to breath tests, expired vehicle registration, and unclear plates after his vehicle was stopped for a motor vehicle violation. He was released to another adult pending a court date.
02-28-2011- Corporal Dennis Carovillano arrested Charles Holland, age 30, of Newark for an outstanding warrant out of Newark after his vehicle was stopped for a motor vehicle violation. He was released pending a court date in Newark.
02-28-2011- A resident of Hickson Drive reported fraudulent charges to her credit card made at a business in Connecticut. The crime is currently under investigation by the New Providence Detective Bureau.
03-01-2011- Patrolman Andrew Diamond arrested Alonso Porras-Rivera, age 24, of Warren for an outstanding warrant out of Dover Township after his vehicle was stopped for a motor vehicle violation. Mr. Porras-Rivera was also charged with driving while suspended and released after posting bail for the warrant.
03-01-2011- A resident on the Fellsway reported a hit and run motor vehicle crash that occurred sometime overnight on Feb. 28. The New Providence Detective Bureau is currently investigating the crash. Anyone with any information or who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the detective bureau at 908-665-1111.
