New Providence Police Blotter: Jan. 27 - Feb. 15

Over the last few weeks, the New Providence Police Department handled numerous incidents of shoplifting at local businesses and traffic violations.

Jan 27 — Investigator Donald Sretenovic charged Anthony Soleman, 21, of Orange with third degree shoplifting. An investigation uncovered that Mr. Soleman had stolen more than $1,700 in Red Bull and candy from a Springfield Avenue business on Jan. 4.

Jan. 30 — Patrolman Joseph DiParisi arrested Beau Jones, 22, of New Providence for shoplifting at a Springfield Avenue business after employees observed Mr. Jones concealing numerous over the counter cold medications. Mr. Jones was released with a pending court date.

Jan. 30 — Patrolman Joseph DiParisi arrested Rua Hernan, 38, of Queens, New York, on an outstanding warrant out of Jackson Township Municipal Court. Mr. Hernan was released after posting bail.

Feb. 4 — Patrolman Andrew Diamong Samual Wizon, 18, of New Providence with underage possession of alcohol.

Feb. 5 — Patrolman Andrew Diamond charged Michael J. Merithew, age 21, of Canastota, New York with driving while suspended after his vehicle was stopped for a motor vehicle violation.

Feb. 9 — A resident of Watchung indicated that her purse was stolen while she was shopping at a business in the borough.  The theft is currently under investigation by the New Providence Detective Bureau.

Feb. 9 — A business in town reported the shoplifting of approximately $290.00 worth of medication.  Two suspects were observed on surveillance video and the shoplifting is currently under investigation by the New Providence Detective Bureau.

Feb. 11 — Patrolman Michael Scuorzo charged Andrea Y Faison, age 41, of Maplewood with driving while suspended after a random registration check revealed that the owner’s license was suspended.

Feb. 12 — A resident on Mountain Avenue reported fraudulent charges made to her credit card in the amount of $375.00.  The fraud is under investigation by the Detective Bureau.

Feb. 14 — Patrolman Andrew Diamond charged George J. Mohlman, age 46, of New Providence with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration, and for operating a motor vehicle without insurance after a random registration inquiry showed the vehicle registration was suspended.  The vehicle was towed from the roadway and Mr. Mohlman was released with a court date.

Feb. 14 — Patrolman Joseph DiParisi charged Rachel Solomon, age 37, of Newark with driving while suspended after her vehicle was stopped for a motor vehicle violation.

Feb. 15 — Patrolman Andrew Diamond charged Mark A. Tomasko, age 26, of Wayne with driving while suspended after a random registration check revealed the owner’s license was suspended.
