New Providence Police Blotter: June 15 - 23

The following arrest information was supplied by the New Providence Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

06-15-2011 — Detective Stephen Drown arrested Peter Filippone, age 39, of Hopatcong for possession of CDS and drug paraphernalia after officers were investigating a suspicious vehicle on Martins Lane.  Mr. Filippone was released pending a court date.

06-15-2011 — A resident on Commonwealth Avenue reports fraudulent charges to her credit card.  The fraud is under investigation by the New Providence Detective Bureau.

06-16-2011 — Corporal Steven Opalewski arrested William Calderone, age 38, of Belleville for three outstanding warrants out of Belleville and Washington Township after his vehicle was stopped for a brake light being out.  He was issued a summons for the violation and also for driving while suspended.

06-16-2011 — Four juveniles were taken into protective custody by Patrolman Daniel Nozza after  they were found to have started a small fire in the wooded area of one of the borough parks.  The New Providence Fire Department was dispatched to ensure that the fire was out.  The juveniles were turned over to their parents.

06-17-2011 — Sergeant Frank Gaffney arrested Carlos Parra, age 33, of Elizabeth for an outstanding warrant out of Elizabeth.  He was issued a summons for driving while suspended, posted bail, and was released pending a court date.

06-20-2011 — Patrolman Michael Scuorzo charged Juan J. Orozco Jr., age 21, of Berkeley Heights with driving while suspended after his vehicle was stopped for a brake light being out.  The owner of the vehicle was issued a summons for the brake light and Mr. Orozco Jr. was given a mandatory court date.

06-21-2011 — Patrolman Joseph DiParisi charged Anthony Lee, age 44, of West New York with driving while suspended after a random license plate inquiry showed that the owner’s license was suspended and vehicle registration was expired.

06-22-2011 — A resident on Brookside Drive reported her bicycle was stolen from her front lawn.  The theft is currently under investigation by the detective bureau.

06-23-2011 — Sergeant Robert Carroll charged Semih Demir, age 22, of Berkeley Heights with driving while suspended and no front plate after his vehicle was stopped for the motor vehicle violation.  He was released pending a court date.
