Open Discussion: What Do You Think of Christie's Benefits and Pension Reform Bill?
Under the bill, all state workers would have to contribute a higher percentage of their salary to their health care benefits and pension payments. We want to hear your thoughts on this issue.

On Monday, the New Jersey State Senate, backed by Gov. Chris Christie, that will increase the percentage that state workers — police officers, firefighters, teachers and 500,000 other employees — contribute to health care benefits and pension payments. The bill was passed by a margin of 24-15 and the Assembly is expected to vote on the bill this Thursday, where passage seems likely.
Unions representing public employees have been rallying supporters outside the statehouse in Trenton for several days prior to the bill's passage in the Senate to oppose the measure. More protests are expected this Thursday when the Assembly meets. The legislation has been a top priority for Christie and Senate Majority Leader Steve Sweeney (D-Gloucester).
