Suspicious Packages At Train Station Found Empty

Police officers found suitcases, called Union County Bomb Squad to x-ray both packages

New Providence Detectives are currently investigating why two empty suitcases were left at the New Providence Railroad Station this morning.

Police officers responded at 6:18 a.m. to a report of two suspicious packages in the area of the train station. Upon their arrival, officers found two blue suitcases, one was placed against a signpost near the commuter parking lot on Springfield Avenue and the second suitcase was placed near the railroad pedestrian tunnel.

Police taped off the scene and notified the Union County Bomb Squad. Both suitcases were x-rayed by Bomb Squad Members and found to be empty.

Although there were no explosive devices located at the scene, police say it is apparent that these cases were intentionally placed to create a public alarm.

Both suitcases were recovered by New Providence Detectives who will be investigating this incident.
