Tornado Watch In Effect For Union County

National Weather Service is predicting strong winds and heavy rain for the New Providence area through 8 p.m.

A tornado watch is in effect until 8 p.m. Wednesday for parts of New Jersey, including Union County.

In New Providence, showers and thunderstorms are likely this afternoon, and some may be severe with damaging winds, according to the National Weather Service.

The watch—which includes parts of New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Western Maine, New Hampshire and Rhode Island—is also in effect for Bergen, Hudson, Passaic and Essex counties in New Jersey.

Remember, a tornado "watch" means the weather conditions are favorable for a tornadoes and severe thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.
