Michael Rabinowitz is a groundbreaking bassoonist whose improvisational work—from bebop with the Charles Mingus Orchestra to free jazz with Anthony Braxton—has redefined the instrument’s role in contemporary music. A SUNY Purchase graduate, he has recorded with artists including Wynton Marsalis, Dave Douglas, Chris Potter, and Joe Lovano, and appeared at major festivals worldwide, from Tanglewood to the Hollywood Bowl. He leads the quartet Bassoon and the Wild, has released multiple acclaimed albums including Ocean Eyes, and is a longtime Buffet Group USA artist who is also active as an educator and collaborator across jazz and classical worlds.
