All District 16 Candidates Advance to Nov. Election

Party-endorsed candidates to run in November Senate, Assembly races.

 

Polls have closed in New Jersey's first primary election for 2013 and ballots are being counted. 

In District 16, incumbent Republican Senator Christopher Bateman will attempt to fend off a challenge from Democrat Christian Mastondrea.

Incumbent Republican Assemblyman Jack Cittarelli and incumbent Republican Assemblywoman Donna Simon are up against Democratic challengers Marie Corfield and Ida Ochoteco.

All six candidates running for Senate and Assembly seats in District 16 ran unopposed.

According to the unofficial results:

Bateman: Mercer County, 298; Middlesex County, 8; Hunterdon County, 2,667; Somerset County, 2,632; Total, 5,605

Mastondrea: Mercer County, 568; Middlesex County, 7; Hunterdon County, 465; Somerset County, 1,081; Total, 2,121

Cittarelli: Mercer County, 296; Middlesex County, 15; Hunterdon County, 2,560; Somerset County, 2,586; Total, 5,457

Simon: Mercer County, 297; Middlesex County, 15; Hunterdon County, 2,603; Somerset County, 2,548; Total, 4,923

Corfield: Mercer County, 590; Middlesex County, 16; Hunterdon County, 455; Somerset County, 1,111; Total, 2,172

Ochoteco: Mercer County, 560; Middlesex County, 16; Hunterdon County, 445; Somerset County, 1,052; Total, 2,073

New Jersey's next primary is scheduled for Aug. 13, when Democrats and Republicans will head to the polls to select their candidates for October's special Senate election.
