In Legislative District 16, Democrats hope for change
Adding the Princetons, South Brunswick to staunchly Republican district have some believing 16th could be in play in November.

The 16th District has been staunchly Republican for decades. But last spring's redistricting moved Princeton and South Brunswick, two typically Democratic voting blocs, into the 16th. That, coupled with the retirement of an incumbent and frustration about the overhaul of public employee benefits in June, have the Democrats hoping they can pull off an upset.
The candidates are:
- Incumbent Christopher "Kip" Bateman, a Republican, and attorney Mauren Vella, a Democrat, for state Senate.
- State Assembly incumbent Peter Biondi and Somerset County Freeholder Jack Ciatterelli, both Republicans from Hillsborough, and Joseph Camarota, of South Bruswick, and Marie Corfield, of Flemington, the Democrats. Incumbent Republican Denise Coyle is not seeking re-election.
