​New Assistant Principal Appointed At Princeton High School

PRINCETON, NJ – The Princeton Board of Education on Tuesday voted to approve the appointment of a new assistant principal for Princeton High School (PHS).

The BOE voted unanimously to appoint math teacher Lauren Freedman was appointed to fill the post left vacant by Cecilia Birge who was recently appointed principal of PHS.

Freedman’s name was recommended to the BOE by Superintendent Carol Kelley. She will begin in her new role on Oct. 2.

“It is with great enthusiasm that I recommend Ms. Freedman as an assistant principal of Princeton High School. She is an exemplary educator who always goes above and beyond for her students,” Kelley said. “Her natural ability to lead makes Ms. Freedman an excellent addition to the PHS leadership team.”

Freedman has been a math teacher at PHS since 2008. She has been involved in numerous leadership committees at the school, including Master Schedule, District Strategic Planning, Math Program Review, School Improvement, Safety, SEL, and Intervention & Referral Service committees.

Freedman also serves as an instructional technology mentor, professional learning community leader and new teacher mentor.

“Ms. Freedman isn't just an engaging, caring, and brilliant teacher. She's also a lifelong Princeton resident and a proud alumnus of PHS Class of 2004,” Birge said. “The bond she shares with our students, families, and fellow educators speaks volumes about her dedication.”

A Princeton resident, Freedman has been recognized for her service in the community as she received the Corner House Leadership Award, led the Corner House Teen Advisory Group (TAG), working with juniors from the surrounding area high schools to prepare community outreach programs, and organized a COVID community fundraiser for economically disadvantaged students.

“I am excited that as an assistant vice principal, more Princeton High School students and parents will have the opportunity to benefit from Lauren’s student-centered approach, kindness, and belief that all students can succeed,” BOE president Dafna Kendal said.

Freedman earned a bachelor of science degree in education with a math concentration from Villanova University and a master of arts in educational leadership from the University of Texas Permian Basin.
