Unresponsive NJ Baby At Daycare Died From Brain Injuries: Prosecutor

A 4-month-old child found unresponsive at a daycare this month was suffering from skull fractures and brain bleeding, according to officials

MERCER COUNTY - A four-month-old New Jersey child found unresponsive at a daycare earlier this month was suffering from skull fractures and brain bleeding, officials said.

Dominic Brown, Jr., was taken to Capital Health Medical Center in Hopewell for treatment on Aug. 8 after he was not responsive at a daycare operating out of a private home in Ewing, Mercer County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Casey DeBlasio told Patch.

Brown was taken to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia where he died from his injuries days later, DeBlasio added.

The death was reported to the state Division of Child Protection and Permanency as well as the state Institutional Abuse Investigation Unit. No charges have been filed yet and the investigation is ongoing, he said.

A GoFundMe page set up for Brown’s family was created to fund the child’s funeral expenses and hire an attorney “to investigate exactly what happened to DJ,” the page reads.

As of Thursday morning, the fundraiser exceeded $23,000, far beyond its initial $8,000 goal.

“DJ was being watched by someone who was trusted with his care when hours later, he was taken to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia unresponsive,” the page continues. “Once at the hospital, it was learned that DJ suffered severe brain injuries. DJ was hospitalized for 3 days, and he ultimately succumbed to those injuries.

“We will not stop until we get all the answers.”
