Post Office Will Remain in "Princeton Proper," Mayor says

Borough Mayor Mildred Trotman assures residents there will still be a local post office, no service disruption.

Following the news that the Post Office at 20 Palmer Square East will relocate, Princeton Borough Mayor Mildred Trotman reassured residents on Tuesday the new site will be in “Princeton proper.”

The postmaster told Trotman there would be no disruption in service.

“Wherever they move, they will not go to the new location until it’s ready to go,” Trotman said at borough council meeting.

According to a Planet Princeton report last week, the U.S. Postal Service plans to sell the property in Palmer Square as part of a nationwide effort to save costs.

The Postal Service uses less than a fifth of the building it occupies, so it makes more sense to relocate, the report said.

When asked what “Princeton proper” means, Trotman said residents would not have to travel to Route 1. However, the Postal Service hasn’t yet found a new location, so she couldn’t be more specific.
