Princeton Moves Forward with Long-Term Landfill Environmental Compliance
The services agreement with T&M Associates is for the amount not to exceed $312,453.

PRINCETON, NJ – During the last council meeting, Princeton adopted a resolution awarding a professional services agreement to T&M Associates for corrective and environmental measures at the Princeton Sanitary Landfill.
The agreement is for the amount not to exceed $312,453.
According to officials, the landfill cap suffers from degradation, which is not related to “previous illegal activities” but requires repairs.

The corrective actions will be completed after construction work, pending approval from the NJ Department of Environmental Protection.
“We will be completed with the corrective actions after we do the construction work and get approval from DEP of that activity that was done. But with a landfill, there is still at least a 20-year window after a landfill is closed, where you continue to do the annual monitoring that we do for the gas emissions and groundwater and just maintaining the landfill so that we don't have this situation reoccur where we have that degraded cap,” Deputy Administrator and Municipal Engineer Deanna Stockton said.

In late December 2024, NJDEP approved the modified closure and post-closure plan for the landfill, and the work undertaken by T&M Associates will address that.
The proposal provides for the final design services costs expended by T&M, capped at $150,000, to achieve the necessary approvals in order to be able to construct the drainage improvements at the landfill.
The proposal also includes specifications preparation at a cost of $19,500 and construction administration/inspection services at a cost of $142,953.
