Princeton Community Housing Celebrates 50 Years of Affordable Housing

Princeton Community Village celebrated 50 years while Elm Court its 40th anniversary.

PRINCETON, NJ — Princeton Community Housing celebrated two significant anniversaries this summer with festive community gatherings at its landmark affordable housing developments.

The organization marked the 50th anniversary of Princeton Community Village, its first affordable housing community that opened in 1975, and the 40th anniversary of Elm Court, which began serving senior residents in 1985.

At Elm Court, more than 50 residents gathered on July 3 for a combined 40th anniversary celebration and Independence Day picnic, complete with traditional cookout food, music, and a commemorative cake.

Princeton Community Village hosted approximately 130 neighbors of all ages on June 21 for a block party in front of the Ted Vial Clubhouse. Despite the hot afternoon weather, attendees enjoyed music by local DJ Darius, barbecue catered by Occasions by Cintron, and youth activities.

The Village celebration included a program emceed by longtime trustee Sara Just, recognizing eleven residents who have called the community home for five decades. Original residents Tonya Alexander, Sharon Cruser, Arthur Diringer, Becky Disher, Betty Hightower, Joan Hill, Maylis Larsson, Dale Spruill-Redding, Lottie Rhodes, Uta Runyan, and Salomon Tucubal received certificates of recognition.

Princeton Public Schools' new superintendent Mike LaSusa offered congratulations to the Princeton Community Village community during the program.
