Residents Escape Apartment Complex Fire In Princeton

The fourth floor of the apartment building and several neighboring units were deemed temporarily uninhabitable due to water damage.

PRINCETON, NJ — Residents in an apartment complex in Princeton were forced to escape after a fire broke out on Tuesday night.

On Jan. 6, at around 10:16 p.m., emergency responders went to Spring Street after a commercial fire alarm went off inside a building.

A 911 caller reported smoke coming from an apartment on the fourth floor of an apartment complex and said that residents were evacuating the building, according to Princeton Police Chief Matthew Solovay.

Princeton Firefighters went into the building and found an active fire.

Assisting agencies included Princeton Plasma Engine 66, West Windsor Fire Department, Plainsboro Fire Department, and Hamilton Fire Department.

The Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad (PFARS) and West Windsor EMS also responded to the area; however, no injuries were reported.

After the fire was extinguished, the Princeton Fire Marshal’s Office began an investigation.

The Princeton Department of Emergency Management, Princeton Human Services, Princeton Health
Department, the Princeton Building Department, and utility provider, PSE&G, were also notified as
part of standard safety protocols.

Following an inspection, the fourth floor of the apartment building and several neighboring units were deemed temporarily uninhabitable due to water damage.

All other apartments in the building were found to be safe, and residents were permitted to return.

The incident remains under investigation by the Princeton Fire Marshal’s Office.
