High School Drivers Prompt Parking Restriction

Local residents were concerned about high schoolers parking on their street during school hours, officials said.

Street parking on a residential road near one of the borough’s schools might soon be restricted, thanks to an ordinance the borough council introduced at its meeting last week.

The ordinance calls for two-hour restricted parking on the east side of Canterbury Drive between Byron Court and Eton Court.

Councilwoman Deirdre Dillion said the proposed ordinance was in response to groups of high school students who park on that roadway during school, and associated “safety concerns,” from that.

Local residents met with council representatives and the Chief of Police to come up with a parking restriction that they felt would help alleviate the issue, Dillon said.

The council will consider the ordinance for final approval at its next meeting on July 10.
