Home Depot Hosting Hurricane Preparedness Seminar

Salvation Army and Red Cross representatives will be at the event, which includes a free workshop.

In conjunction with several other locations in the area, the Home Depot on Route 17 in Mahwah will be hosting a Hurricane Preparedness event this Saturday.

Locals are invited to stop by the store from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to see demonstrations and get expert advice from the Mahwah CERT Team, and township firefighters, police officers, and other emergency responders.

Representatives from the Red Cross and the Salvation Army will also be on hand to dole out advice on how locals should prepare for the upcoming hurricane season, and info on how they would respond to potential emergency situations in the region.

From 10 to 11:30 a.m., the store will host a free workshop on emergency preparedness, and a complimentary children’s event.

Organizers of the event at the Home Depot say it is in response to the two major hurricanes – Irene and Sandy – the area encountered over the past two years.

“We are going to have vendors there talking about emergency materials people should have on hand, how to safely use a generator, things like that,” Home Depot’s Sharon VanCisco-Boccadoro said.

“It’s going to be about everything people need to do to prepare both before and after a storm.”

“I think it’ll be a really helpful thing for people to go to,” she said.

Customers interested in attending the workshop are asked to register online in advance.
