Reminder: Track Qualifier in Ramsey This Weekend

Registration deadline is Saturday.

A group of Ramsey residents is looking to foster an interest in local kids and teens in an oftentimes under-the-radar sport. And, in order to do it, trips to Hershey Park are on the line.

The 36th Annual National Hershey’s Track and Field Games will be held in Hershey, PA this August. For the first time ever, Ramsey runners ages 9 to 14 will have the chance to qualiy at a meet in the borough.

The qualifier “is a free event to introduce boys and girls ages 9-14 to the sport,” Ramsey Council President Ken Tyburczy – who is organizing the event with resident Chris Haskell – said.

“The top eight in each category qualify for the State Tournament and the top three from the region get an all expense paid trip to Nationals in Hershey, PA.”

The meet is happening Sunday at the Ramsey High School Track.

Hershey’s describes the games as a fun way for kids to be more active:

Every HERSHEY’S Track & Field Games meet offers running events, like the 50-meter dash and the 800-meter run, and field events, like the softball throw and the standing long jump. And that’s just for starters. If you work hard enough and qualify in your events, you’ll get the chance to compete at the North American Final in Hershey, Pennsylvania. P.S. The trip to Hershey is totally FREE and you get to do a lot of cool things like go to Hersheypark, visit HERSHEY’S CHOCOLATE WORLD Attraction, and tour HERSHEY'S state of the art chocolate factory.

Organizers sent the attached flier home from school with Ramsey kids, but participants must register online in order to participate.
