Under 7% of Ramsey Voters Turn Out for Special Primary

Borough voted in line with the rest of the state.

Only about 6.6% of the over 10,000 registered voters in Ramsey voted in the special primary election Tuesday, and the majority voted in line with the rest of the state.

According to unofficial results of the special primary released by the borough clerk’s office after polls closed Tuesday night, 677 Ramsey residents voted in the special primary.

Most Democrats voted for Newark Mayor Cory Booker, and most Republicans voted for Steve Lonegan – the two candidates who will face off in a special election to fill an open Senate seat this October.

Cory Booker - 231

Rush Holt - 81

Frank Pallone, Jr. - 57

Sheila Oliver - 3

Republicans:

Steve Lonegan - 251

Alieta Eck - 53

Initial statewide results show Booker receiving more than 60 percent of the vote. U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. received about 20 percent, U.S. Rep. Rush Holt 15, and state Assembly speaker Sheila Oliver less than 5 percent.

In the Republican primary, Lonegan collected about 90 percent of the vote to Eck’s 10 percent.

The two will compete to fill a US Senate seat vacated by the death of Frank Lautenberg earlier this year.
