Veterans Park May Install Modern Military Conflict Monuments

The borough plans to apply for a county grant this month to help pay for the new monuments.

Veterans Park in Ramsey may soon honor a bigger group of the nation’s soldiers, if the borough is given a county grant officials say they plan to apply for this month.

At a borough council meeting last week, Borough Administrator Bruce Vozeh said Ramsey is planning to apply for a matching Bergen County Open Space grant that would provide half of the funds needed for an upgrade project at Veterans Park.

Designers who worked on the original concept for the park will be putting together specifics of the design for the grant application, but Vozeh said they will likely include monuments recognizing soldiers who fought in more recent conflicts in the Middle East, a request of the VFW.

The design will also include a fallen soldiers monument.

The upgrades may not be too pricey when compared with other grant application projects, which borough officials said they hope will give Ramsey an edge when competing for the county grant money.

“It’s not a huge-ticket item, but the matching funds [from the county grant] would certainly be helpful,” Mayor Chris Botta said at the meeting.

Borough officials said they plan to submit the application for funding  this month.
