They stood on the banks of the Navesink at Riverside Gardens Park Monday evening, where, on Sept. 11, 2001, one could see the smoke billowing in the distance from the felled Twin Towers at New York's World Trade Center, knowing that many would never return home to New Jersey.
There, 12 years later, Red Bank Elks, officials, scouts and residents stood in remembrance of heroes and hometown heroes lost, vowing to never forget.
There were readings, some patriotic songs and prayer — all for remembrance.
Lest we forget was the message. They remembered.
