Alleged Key Attack on Cop Leads to Indictment

A Fair Haven woman was indicted by a Monmouth County Grand Jury on allegations that she attacked a police officer in Red Bank with a set of keys during an arrest late in January.

Elizabeth Jacomme, also identified as Elisabeth in prior police reports, was indicted on five counts Wednesday stemming from a January arrest in which police say the 45 year old eluded police in a chase that stretched from Fair Haven to Red Bank, resisted arrested and attacked a borough police officer.

Jacomme, a resident of the first block of Heights Terrace, was charged with eluding, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, aggravated assault on a police officer, and resisting arrest. The charges range from second to fourth-degree crimes.

Eluding is typically a third-degree crime though is bumped up to second degree when fleeing is believed to create the risk of death of serious injury to another person. As a second degree crime, eluding carries a presumptive jail sentence.

According to court documents, Jacomme fled from a in a vehicle during an attempted traffic stop. Some time later, authorities were able to catch up with her and, while attempting to place her under arrest, were attacked by a key-wielding Jacomme, police said. The two weapon charges levied against Jacomme stem from her alleged inappropriate use of the keys as a weapon and attempt to injure the arresting officer.
