Art Program For Kids Offered By Red Bank Church, Fortune Center

Apply by Jan. 6 for a free, three-session artistic expression program in Red Bank, "Kids Create for Change."

RED BANK, NJ — "Kids Create for Change" is a free art program being offered in February by the United Methodist Church of Red Bank and the T. Thomas Fortune Cultural Center, Red Bank.

Apply by Jan. 6 for a spot in the program, said Bonnie Deroski, director of Children and Youth Ministries for the church.

The two organizations are partnering to present "Kids Create for Change," a free series of workshops for children ages 8 to 11, hosted on three Saturdays in February. The workshops will be held Feb. 4, 11 and 18.

"Kids Create for Change" will guide children from diverse backgrounds to "find their voice through artistic expression and help them to connect with each other to make a difference in their community," Deroski said.

The sessions, which will run from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., will include:

  • Icebreaker games
  • Picture book readings
  • Discussion
  • Creative projects
  • Lunch

There will also be guest speakers: Authors Barbara DiLorenzo and Diana Lee Santamaria will speak and the Culture Connection Theatre will make a presentation, too.

The sessions will take place at the T. Thomas Fortune Cultural Center on East Bergen Place.

Each participant will receive a keepsake book of the group’s artwork and stories at a celebration event on March 24.

The celebration on March 24 will be at 6 p.m. and will take place at United Methodist Church of Red Bank, 247 Broad St., and will feature a book reading of "Ashti Meets Birdman Al" by author Carmen Rubin. The celebration will be open to all.
