Boy Fatally Struck By Train Near Red Bank

A boy died after being hit by a train that was traveling with no passengers late Friday night, according to an NJ Transit representative.

RED BANK, NJ — A boy was fatally struck by a train near Red Bank late Friday going into Saturday, according to an NJ Transit representative.

The train had two engines and no passenger cars. None of the crew members were injured, said NJ Transit spokesperson Mariluz Garcia-Diaz.

The train had departed the Medows Maintenance Complex and was traveling through the North Jersey Coastline, headed towards the Long Branch station.

The incident happened at around 1:30 a.m. near West Bergen Place, near the Red Bank train station.

Service on the North Jersey Coast Line was suspended in both directions between Long Branch and Red Bank for about three hours after the boy was struck and was restored at around 4 a.m.

There was no more information available on Monday morning as the incident is still under investigation by NJ Transit Police.
