How Safe Do You Feel in Red Bank? [Poll]

In the past 20 plus years, crime in Red Bank has been cut significantly thanks in part to the borough's revitalization and the dedication of its police force. Still, questions routinely arise about safety, borough wide. Though very few serious violent crimes take place in Red Bank, there's still a perception that parts of Red Bank are unsafe. That may have been true at one time, but present reality does not offer the same conclusion, at least according to statistics from the Red Bank Police Department.

When it comes to the feeling of safety in Red Bank, much is tied to perception. Though efforts have been undertaken to redevelop, rebrand, and re-imagine the west side - think the Antiques District - visitors are often hesitant to leave Red Bank's downtown proper, limiting themselves to just three streets, Broad, White, and (half of) Monmouth.

The issue has even come up at public meetings. In one instance, Danny Murphy, owner of on Bridge Avenue, said visitors are reluctant to park in the west side or even at the train station for fear that their safety may be at risk.
