RED BANK, NJ — The Broadwalk is ready for a Kids Takeover this Friday, the first of three Friday afternoons when children ages two to eight can enjoy a stretch of Broad Street car-free.

The Red Bank RiverCenter announced that on this Friday and on Aug. 19 and 26, from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., kids with their families can bring trikes and scooters to ride, chalk to decorate some sidewalks, and then perhaps hang out to enjoy some grown-up time at a restaurant.

The plaza area extends from Front to White streets. Children have to be supervised by an adult and must have on their helmets if they are riding their trikes or scooters, organizers say.

The Kids Takeowver "was very successful last summer so we wanted to replicate it again this year on the Broadwalk," said Bob Zuckerman, executive director of RiverCenter.

He said the idea for Kids Takeover came last summer from Councilwoman Kate Triggiano.

"She was inspired by a similar type of event that Second Life Bikes had created in Asbury Park, so she brought the idea to us," he said.

The takeover is dependent on weather, so check the RiverCenter Facebook site for more information.
