Large Interest in Mayors Wellness Campaign

After announcing its intention to develop its own Mayors Wellness Campaign, dozens have responded to Red Bank to join the fun.

A recent push to develop a Mayors Wellness Campaign in Red Bank has gained significant attention since the idea was first introduced by Councilman Mike DuPont in March.

A little more than a month after the borough put out a call for interested volunteers, DuPont said more than 50 people have responded to work towards a more fit and healthy lifestyle by joining the Mayors Wellness Campaign Committee.

Now it's up to Mayor Pat Menna to choose who he'd like to lead the when when it comes to making the a healthier place to live.

The first order of business for the committee will be to coordinate efforts to make Red Bank a healthier community. This will benefit both residents and borough employees and, in addition to promoting good health, should help reduce costs associated with obesity and other unhealthy lifestyle choices.

When the council passed a resolution in support of the campaign, DuPont announced his plan to run a weight loss competition featuring his fellow council members similar to the . He's even promised to furnish the winner with a $100 of his own money to be spent at the Red Bank business of their choosing.

Menna is doing his part to honor the campaign. At a recent council meeting, Menna said he's shown restraint at recent community functions, avoiding the hors d'oeuvres and dessert that are offered in an effort to set a good example.
