Longtime Shrewsbury Resident, 'JoAnne' Schissler, Dies at 90

Funeral service today, Friday, at Nativity Church, Fair Haven.

Josephine "JoAnne" Anne Schissler, 90, passed peacefully at home, Monday, Sept. 2.

Born in Shrewsbury, she lived there most of her life until moving to Little Silver in 1986. Josephine attended St. James Grammar School and Red Bank Catholic High School and Mrs. Porter's Secretarial School, Red Bank.

JoAnne was predeceased by: her husband of 53 years, Paul F. Schissler; her parents, Edward M. and Helen Kelly; her brothers, Edward M. Kelly, John H. Kelly; her sister, Margaret Gibson and her grandson, Thomas Patrick Schissler.

Surviving are: her brother, William and wife Jean Kelly, of Rumson; her sisters, Helen Shute, of Manchester and Mary Beth Fricano, of Virginia; her eight children, Paul F. Schissler, Jr. and wife Patricia, Virginia, Edward K. Schissler and wife Alexandra, South Carolina, Joan S. Forsyth and husband Gordon III, Red Bank, Margaret S. Leahy and husband Kevin, Rumson, Mark R. Schissler and wife Diane, Connecticut, Phillip Schissler and wife Amy, Iowa, Thomas A. Schissler and wife Suzanne, Fair Haven, and Anne S. Flack and husband David, Arizona; 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

"She had a unique ability to make everyone she came into contact with feel as though they were the most special, most important person she had ever known. We can all aspire to give that to everyone we know or meet in our lifetime," her family said in her obituary.

Visitation was held on Thursday, Sept. 5 at Thompson Memorial Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Sept. 6 at 10 a.m. at Church of the Nativity, 180 Ridge Rd., Fair Haven. Interment will follow at Fair View Cemetery Mausoleum, Middletown. The family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory either to Red Bank Catholic High School, 112 Broad St., Red Bank, NJ 07701 or American Lung Assoc ., 1031 Rt. 22W., STE 203, Bridgewater, NJ.
